intimacy Directing

Intimacy Professionalism and Intimacy Directing are both new to the theatrical community and atmosphere, being introduced in 2006. An Intimacy Director's ultimate job is to facilitate a bridge between the director's vision for the production and the actors boundaries. Being a Consent Forward Artist means uplifting the "no" as much as the "yes" and honoring creativity in storytelling to aid our maintaining of boundaries and consent in contact that occurs on the stage.

Clove began intimacy directing when they saw a need for the consent forward practices at their undergraduate theatre school. Many theatre communities have not yet been introduced to intimacy professionalism and the value it adds to the storytelling process. This observation prompted Clove to dedicate themself to spreading consent forward practices and protocols everywhere they work.

Clove has completed 4 trainings in Intimacy Professionalism with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC):

- Level 1 (2021) and Level 2 (2022) of IDC's Consent Forward Artist Certification Program; which is 40+ hours of virtual training and live online sessions on Intimacy Professionalism.

- Intimacy Professional Accelerator Certification (2023-2024); a year long virtual program containing 40+ hours of virtual training on intimacy professionalism and choreography, community engagement on a national and international level, and live online skill and mentorship sessions.

- Intimacy Director Certification Training (2025); the final step in Clove's training towards full certification in the field. Encompasses 4 years of training in a 7 day in person training workshop with Intimacy Professional colleagues.

- Certification Pending with IDC. Full Certification coming soon!
